A Brief History<\/h2>\n

H\u0113mi Tapu Church, located in Kelston, is the western base of the Auckland Anglican M\u0101ori Mission. Te M\u012bhana M\u0101ori \u014d Wait\u0101kere has been based in the whare for over 40 years.<\/p>\n

Throughout its history, H\u0113mi Tapu has been closely associated with the Waipareira Trust, providing free services and support for wh\u0101nau of all ages in West Auckland, including health, legal, housing, and education services.<\/p>\n

On Sunday 15 February 2026, the church celebrated the installation of Rev. Raawiri David Rat\u016b as priest-in-charge. An event attended by 140 people, with the Archdeacon of T\u0101maki Makaurau (Ven. Mark Barnard) conducting the installation.<\/p>\n

Alongside our church building, H\u0113mi Tapu also have a multipurpose hall at the rear of the property.<\/span><\/p>\n

Formerly an ECE Centre, the hall was returned to the care of the H\u0113mi Tapu wh\u0101nau on Monday, 24 August, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hall provides a space to grow the ministry of H\u0113mi Tapu in T\u0101maki ki te Hau\u0101uru (West Auckland) and for service and partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n

The return was marked by a service of blessing, led by Rev\u2019d Keri\u2011Ann Hokianga on Sunday, 30 August, 2026 – images from the service<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
