We want our wh\u0101nau to deepen their relationship with Christ, expressed by embracing and celebrating our tuakiri M\u0101ori (M\u0101ori cultural identity).<\/span><\/p>\n He k\u0101inga tuarua – a second home:<\/strong><\/p>\n Many of our wh\u0101nau share that Te M\u012bhana is a home away from home – a beloved community away from one’s ancestral lands. As Rev’d Scott Parekowhai shares, “I’ve washed more dishes in T\u0101tai Hono, than I ever have back home – given it’s over 8 hours drive away. Te M\u012bhana has been a sanctuary and place of belonging for me as an urban M\u0101ori.” Each Sunday there is a strong sense of homecoming for many.<\/p>\n A safe w\u0101hi for second language learners:<\/strong><\/p>\n With most of our wh\u0101nau being second language learners of te reo M\u0101ori \u2013 we understand the difficult journey of reclaiming our sacred language. Many of us have studied at Te W\u0101nanga o Aoteaora, Te W\u0101nanga Takiura, and Te W\u0101nanga Ihorangi. To support those on the journey, Te M\u012bhana M\u0101ori seeks to provide a perfect context where wh\u0101nau have a weekly context to both listen and k\u014drero M\u0101ori. Our services are primarily conducted in te reo M\u0101ori (with English translation available to be inclusive for all abilities), and during our kapu t\u012b afterwards \u2013 there is always time to whakawhiti k\u014drero (converse) with reo speakers.<\/p>\n Pan-tribal:<\/strong><\/p>\n As a pantribal community, our wh\u0101nau have whakapapa to hap\u016b and iwi from all over Aotearoa \u2013 Ng\u0101puhi, Ng\u0101ti Porou, Tauranga Moana, and beyond.
